George H.W. Bush (1924-2018) was the 41st President of the United States, serving from 1989 to 1993. His life included significant public service, beginning with enlistment in the armed forces on his 18th birthday during World War II. Before becoming president, he held various roles, including Texas congressman, CIA director, and Vice President under Ronald Reagan.
The image depicts a Commemorative Forever Stamp issued by the U.S. Postal Service in his honor. The stamp features a portrait of Bush painted by artist Michael J. Deas, based on a 1997 photograph by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders. The first-day-of-issue ceremony for this stamp was held on June 12, 2019, which would have been his 95th birthday. This stamp acknowledges his legacy, including his role in guiding the U.S. through the end of the Cold War and signing landmark legislation like the Americans with Disabilities Act and a Clean Air Act update.
